190419 Postcard from Amersham
Today Sue and I went for a very pleasant potter around the old Buckinghamshire town of Amersham. first to the Memorial Gardens and their glorious Tulip display. Ok, not quite Keukenhof, but magnificent nonetheless. We then wandered through the cemetery before venturing into St Mary’s Church, a 12th century Norman church which included a visit to the Drake Chapel, a memorial to the Tyrwhitt-Drake family that owned Amersham in the 1700s. One of the churchwardens explained the history of the family to us, and told us about some of the symbolism in the pieces. A very nice few hours on a lovely town, finished off with a late lunch at Twelve Twenty to round off a beautiful day.
