230620 Port Stephens Koala Sanctuary
In between Whale Watching Sessions, we visited the Port Stephens Koala Sanctuary, where there are numerous little bundles of fur that are being cared for following incidents with traffic, bush fires and other events that dislodge and displace them. Koalas are notoriously fussy little blighters – largely solitary, very shy, and extremely pernickety about their food sources, only certain trees and certain leaves will do – and this makes them nigh-on impossible to release back to the wild if they have been rescued. The site also has hospital facilities to patch up damaged koalas before giving them a loving home on the site. While there we were entertained by a noisy miner and a couple of Kookaburras.
